One student killed, 19 others injured in school bus accident
- One student was killed while 19 other sustained injuries in a road accident at Kombwea in Kisumu county
- The students from Rapogi Mixed Secondary School were from a sports event in a neighbouring school when the accident happened
- The bus is reported to have veered off the road when the driver was trying to avoid hitting another vehicle
One student from Rapogi mixed secondary school died while 19 others sustained injured in a road accident along Bondo- Kisumu road at Kombewa on Friday, February 23 .
TUKO.co.ke understands the accident occurred near Seme Deputy County Commissionerâs office when the students were on their way from a sports event at a neighbouring school in Kombewa.

It is alleged that the bus was ferrying 50 students from Rapogi and Ngutu Secondary schools.
The DCC, Andrew Naibei said the school bus overturned and rolled as the driver tried to avoid ramming into a Public Service Vehicle (PSV).
According to the traffic boss, twelve students suffered serious injuries while seven sustained minor injuries

The injured students were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment hours after being admitted at Kombewa District Hospital.
The driver of the school bus is said to have fled off.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongâo, accompanied by Seme MP James Nyikal, MCAs Sally Okudo (Central Seme) and Peter Abaja (North Seme),visited those admitted on Saturday, February 24 and asked police to investigate the cause of the accident.
âIt is unfortunate and painfu l that we lost one of them," he said. âMy government will support the families of the victims."
He commended county staff on quickly taking the students to hospital and asked school heads to ensure drivers are well-trained so learners are safe on roads.
