The Kikuyu Council of Elders has told Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to end the drama and fulfil his election pledges or quit.
In a statement on Tuesday, national chairman Wachira Kiago said the governor should stop fighting imaginary enemies and concentrate on running the city.
âIt is nine months since he came into office. He promised to clean and decongest Nairobi. He was to look into the plight of hawkers and empower our youth. Unfortunately, he has disappointed,â he said.
Kiago told Sonko to stop blaming Kikuyus for his inability to manage Nairobi. He should remember the Kikuyusâ votes were instrumental in his election, he said.
âWe had better leaders, but he was popularly elected. We accepted the peopleâs verdict. We expected Governor Sonko to support our businesses by creating a good environment. That has not happened,â Kiago said.
âInstead, Sonko is on record bashing Kikuyus in spite of the overwhelming support he received,â he said.
Secretary general Peter Munga said elders expected Sonko to fulfil his pledge to appoint a Kikuyu deputy governor. However, he has shown disrespect by proposing deported NRM General Miguna Miguna, Munga said.
The elders told Sonko to stop blaming PS Ka ranja Kibicho for his failures.
âGovernor Sonko must not cheapen our voters. He must fulfil his pledges or resign. Our patience is running out. He must give us a deputy governor from the Kikuyu community, clean up and decongest the city,â they said.Video Vault Poll of the day Most Popular 1 Humbling prison life for high-flying NYS suspects 2 Corridors of power 3 How Uhuru phone call triggered NYS arrests 4 Stop arresting proxies and go for the big fish â" NASA 5 NYS suspects remanded until Tuesday after DPP blocks bail 6 We can't borrow even for good projects - CBK Governor 7 Somalia President makes surprise visit to Kenya for security talks 8 PS Lillian Omollo admitted to KNH after colla psing in Langata prison 9 EACC seeks water offi cial Arocho over bribe charge 10 UoN student eulogised as principled but queries linger Must read NYS suspects remanded until Tuesday after DPP blocks bail Day of reckoning as 33 charged over NYS How Uhuru phone call triggered NYS arrests CBK boss to banks: We are coming for you Cash Turf Wars, Costly Aliens, Kiunjuri summons: Your Breakfast Briefing Baringo county âallergicâ to universities, colleges Latest News KPA boss Catherine Mturi-Wairi sacked over incompetence Nine tractors impounded for transporting sugarcane at night India thunderstorms and lightning strikes kill 50 Surveyors fault Kericho County for closing down their offices Uhuru meets US senators to discuss regional security Japanese whale hunters kill 122 pregnant minke Popular in Lat est news PS Omollo, NYS boss accused of handling fake LPOs Banks in NYS scandal violated procedures, face DCI probe - CBK boss CBK releases new Sh50 notes, recalls worn-out bills NYS arrests, Monkey's tale, Weta's threat; Your Breakfast Briefing Popular in National news How NYS suspects tried to block arrest Keep talking and I will tell world truth about you, Weta tells Raila So far so good but itâs too soon to commend © 2018 The Star, Kenya.
