BREAKING: Victor Wanyama ruled out of Kenya v Ghana Afcon qualifier

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama was solid in the middle of the pack alongside Osborne Monday Goal Kenya. This is after the French coach named the final squad of 24 players ahead of the crucial match against the Black Stars on Saturday

Kenya will face Ghana minus influential midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne has revealed to Goal that Wanyama will not be able to travel for the decisive match against the Black Stars owing to medical issues.

“I will only work with the available players for now and my fo cus is to beat Ghana on Saturday.”

Migne added, “It is a shame that out of the 38 players called up for national team duty only 24 turned up. I have given them until end of today (Wednesday), and if they don’t show up, they will not be considered for the match.”

Wanyama and his brother Macdonald Mariga, who is yet to get a new club after leaving Spain, are the only foreign-based players yet to report to camp. On Tuesday, Goal reported that Wanyama was likely to miss the fixture.

“Spurs are not keen to release the player. He (Wanyama) returned to training only last week and Spurs’ medica l staff feels Wanyama is not fit enough to play,” a source within the federation had revealed to Goal.

“They (Spurs medical staff) want Victor Wanyama to recover fully and are still monitoring him. I am 100% sure that Wanyama will not come for the game.”

Wanyama’s absence could give coach Migne the opportunity to start Anthony Akumu in the midfield. Akumu, who turns out for Zesco United, has already reported to camp.

Ghana are leaders of Group F with three points following an opening day 5-0 thrashing of Ethiopia, while Kenya are second from bottom with no point after losing to Sierra Leone 2-1.
