Mt Kenya leaders identify key projects to be done by government

The leaders drawn from both the National Assembly and the Senate led by nominated MP Cecily Mbarire say they are fully behind President Kenyatta big four agenda/file

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 30 â€" A section of Mount Kenya leaders have reiterated their unqualified support to President Uhuru Kenyatta amid jitters from other leaders in the same region who claim the area has been neglected by the government.

The leaders drawn from both the National Assembly and the Senate led by nominated MP Cecily Mbarire say they are fully behind President Kenyatta big four agenda but have identified development priorities specific to the region including water, roads, electricity and agriculture.

“We have therefore developed a detailed development matrix that we shall forward to his Excellency the President for implementation. Mt Kenya region must claim its rightful share of development in the country, within the remaining four years of this current administration,” Mbarire said during a meeting with the leaders at Enashipai Resort in Naivasha.

The close to seventy lawmakers from the Mount Kenya region further gave assurances that they are fully in support of the building bridges initiative that aims to among other things unite Kenyans and more importantly help in the fight against corruption.

The building bridges initiative was birthed following the March 9 handshake between President Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga who is now the High Representative of the African Union in charge of infrastructure.

But even as they pledge their support, the lawmakers have reminded the head of state to deliver on the campaign pledges he made to the residents of the expansive region noting that the region contributes 60 p er cent to the GDP yet only 20 per cent is ploughed back to the residents.

“We call upon the government to put in place measures to facilitate the ease of doing business for Small and Medium Traders (SMEs) and business owners, majority of who are youth from our region, in order to generate employment and revenue to the government,” she said.
